President's Message

June 2022

Sterling Overstreet, MD, FACEP
TCEP President

Tuesday May 24th we were again left shocked and trying to process the news of another senseless massacre, this time affecting Uvalde. This heinous shooting targeted innocent children in their elementary school. We continue to grieve with the community and families who lost their loved ones in this unfathomable manner. I want to recognize the efforts of the medical teams and the emergency physicians in Uvalde and surrounding areas who worked against the odds to minimize the loss of life that day. They will carry with them the psychological trauma from that experience for the rest of their lives and likely never be the same. Thank you for stepping up when your community needed you most.

The First State Bank of Uvalde has established a fund so that donations can be utilized for the families affected. You can donate to the Robb School Memorial fund by calling 830-356-2273 or by donating at any FSB branch or by mail to PO Box 1908, Uvalde, TX 78802. Checks payable to Robb School Memorial Fund. Additionally, Zelle can be used to donate electronically by using the email [email protected] and first name Robb and last name School. Please join me in donating to help our fellow Texans in this time of need.

I want to personally thank all of you who attended TCEP Connect in Fort Worth after a long hiatus due to Covid. It was great to see all of you in person again and reconnect. At the Annual Business Meeting we elected several new Directors, and I would like to congratulate Drs. Sara Andrabi, Angela Cornelius, Zach Helm and Avi Ruderman on their new positions as well Cassidy Lane who will serve as the Medical Student Representative. Congratulations also to Dr. Theresa Tran on her re-election to the Board. Dr. A.J. Kirk was also elected by the Board of Directors to the Executive Committee to serve as our new Secretary and a special thank you to Dr. Meek who is our new Past President for his hard work and dedication to our College over the last year.

July 15th is quickly approaching, and we are looking forward to our upcoming Board of Directors meeting in Lubbock. This will be a great opportunity take TCEP to West Texas and we certainly encourage our members who are available to attend. The board will be working to address our upcoming legislative priorities, budget, and strategic plan for the coming year and rapidly approaching 88th Legislative Session. We hope to see you there.
