Attend a Meeting!
TCEP/ACEP Calendar of Events
Remember these steps for leadership success!
# 1- Networking and Formalizing Mentors!!!
Attending local, state and national meetings is a fantastic way to network while learning about cutting edge emergency medicine and important issues affecting EM. 99% of getting involved is just showing up!!
It is also very important to formalize mentoring relationships with leaders that you would like to emulate. Your mentors will facilitate introductions, provide guidance to ensure engagement and submit your nominations for awards.
#2- Service in Appointed/Elected Positions!!!
There are lots of ways to participate and improve emergency medicine practice. Service in appointed and/or elected positions on local, state and national committees, councils, task forces, boards, etc ensures that you have a chance to contribute while developing important leadership skills. Also remember that once appointed/elected you must deliver on expectations and commitments to become a credible leader.
#3- Be recognized for the amazing work that you have done , are doing and will continue to do!!!
Mentors love to nominate their mentees for awards. It is always an honor for a mentor to submit letters of recommendation on behalf of their mentees. Drafting a letter of nomination to be reviewed, edited and submitted by your mentor ensures your best chance to be recognized for your accomplishments since the best person to tell your story is YOU!
Here is the general outline for a letter of recommendation:
- Paragraph 1:- introduction
- Paragraph 2: addresses academic performance
