COMMENTS AND REFLECTIONS
Tort reform was the focus the year of my presidency. The goal of putting the reform into the Texas Constitution, while difficult to achieve, succeeded in putting the success of our efforts out of reach of the plaintiff attorney controlled courts. The subsequent improvements in access to specialty care and affordability of malpractice insurance continue to benefit Texas physicians today. TCEP not only played a key role in that effort, it has been the driving force for the development of Emergency Medicine as specialty in Texas. I am proud to have played a small part in these efforts and thankful for the many friendships fostered through TCEP.
