Medical Student Committee Update

June 2022

Louisa Weindruch, TCOM MS4, Medical Student Committee Chair

The TCEP Medical Student Committee (MSC) had a great time meeting everyone at Re-Connect in Fort Worth this past April. For many of our students, this was their first in-person conference, and it did not disappoint. We heard from some incredible speakers who gave presentations on topics such as burnout, audition rotations, and matching into EM. We also had the opportunity to hear from the Texas program directors during our PD Panel and Residency Fair. We ended the day at the Resident “OlEMpics” where students tried out the various skills stations. The MSC would like to thank to Dr. Scott Wieters, Dr. Hilary Fairbrother, and all the wonderful speakers and volunteers who helped make the student events a success!

Next month, the Medical Student Committee will be kicking off our programming for the 2022-2023 school year. We are excited to continue our “Meet the Program” series, where we feature virtual info sessions with residency programs in Texas. We look forward to providing another opportunity for EM-bound students to connect with program leadership and residents. As the residency application process changes from year to year, we hope to provide resources and support for the students of Texas and beyond.

We are eager to connect with the Emergency Medicine Interest Groups across Texas again this year. Our goal is to have 100% involvement from the Texas medical schools, and we hope you will help us meet that goal. Throughout the year, we’ll be hosting guest speakers on a variety of topics to introduce our students to the different areas of Emergency Medicine. If you or someone you know is interested in giving a talk to the MSC, please reach out – we’d love to have you!

It’s going to be a great year with the TCEP MSC! Thank you for your continued support and don’t forget to follow us on social media – Twitter: @texACEPstudent Instagram: @tcepmsc
