Medical Student Committee Update

February 2022

Blake Pruitt, TCOM MS4, TCEP MSC Chair

The Texas College of Emergency Physicians Medical Student Committee kicked off 2022 with a speakers series. . In conjunction with the UTSW emergency medicine interest group, we hosted Rhonda Edmunds, the nursing director at Lily's Place, an institution that cares for mothers and babies who have been exposed to opioid, who discussed the nature of emergency medicine and opioid interventions. We also partnered with the TCOM emergency medicine interest group to host Dr. Michael Galuska, program coordinator of Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center and medical student mentor, for an advising session.

Looking forward, we are beyond excited to host Dr. Todd Berger as he discusses applying and matching into emergency medicine and Dr. Jamie Hope for her talk on how working in a high-stakes environment teaches you to thrive in any situation.

We are also looking forward to emergency medicine interest groups across the state holding local Two Step CPR and Lone Star Survival basic bleeding control training events. We are so proud of our student members for their commitment to public education and serving their community members.

Over the next month, we will elect the new members of the TCEP MSC 2022-2023 Executive Board. If you are interested in running for a role on the board please email [email protected] for more information!
