TCEP Supports TMA's Hard Hats for Little Heads Program

Get Moving. Stay Safe. Wear a Helmet.

The Texas Medical Association's Hard Hats for Little Heads bicycle helmet giveaway program was created to help reduce head injury among Texas children. A properly fitting helmet can prevent almost all head injuries - up to 85 percent - the most common cause of disability or death in a bicycle crash. Since 1994, TMA has given away more than 350,000 helmets to Texas children.

TCEP Members Can Receive 50 Free Helmets to Give Away in Their Communities!

TCEP members get a special benefit to their membership!

TCEP members can get up to 50 helmets at no cost to host a local Hard Hats helmet giveaway, thanks to the contribution TCEP made to support the program on behalf of our members. TCEP's donation covers 25 helmets, and TMA doubles that with an equal match of free helmets.

Helmets are available to TCEP Members on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

"There is nothing more important than the health of our children, and TMA/TCEP's partnership to provide bike helmets to children to encourage safe and healthy recreation during this difficult time aligns with our mission for healthy Texans!"
- A.J. Kirk, MD, FACEP

Interested in Hosting a Helmet Giveaway in Your City? Here's What You Need To Know!

TMA assists with everything you need to host an event, including shipping helmets to the event location, publicity and media support, and educational materials. You will receive 50 helmets at no cost to you (while supplies last), and TMA's program provides additional free helmets if you want to purchase more personally. For example, if Dr. Meyer bought 25 extra helmets, TMA would give him more at no cost to hand out (over and above the initial 50 free)! TMA's high-quality helmets are inexpensive too; helmets purchased through TMA cost only $7.85 each, including shipping (retail value of $22).

Key months to host a giveaway:
March: Brain Injury Awareness Month
April: Texas Child Safety Month
May: Bike Month
During these key months, TMA will boost event publicity and draw attention to helmet safety by sending out a news media advisory that lists all Hard Hats events across the state.
