February 2019

Gerad Troutman, MD, MBA, FACEP
President

Although my year is winding down, TCEP actions have only increased. Here are some of the key items we are continuing to work on.

Legislative – Dr. Theresa Tran, our lobbyists, and other TCEP members have been active in monitoring bills effecting our priorities for this session. While we work in tandem with TMA on many issues there are some that we are focusing on including health insurance reforms; prescription monitoring program, and mental health holds.

TCEP Legislative Day – While many members support and attend TMA’s First Tuesdays, this year, TCEP is hosting our own Legislative Day on Monday March 25th. If you are attending Connect, just stay over Sunday night and join us. If you aren’t coming to Connect, but want to come to our legislative day, just let tcep@texacep.org know. There is not a fee, but we need to know how many to plan for.

We will start off in the morning with training by our lobbyists for talking points to your legislator. Then we walk to the Capitol in groups to meet with them. If we don’t tell our story, someone else will and it might be a story that doesn’t reflect what is best for us or our patients. We need you! You will be amazed at how interesting the whole process is, and how you can make a difference.

TCEP Office – Our staff has now completed the move into an office within the TMA building. This allows us to mingle with TMA staff, other specialty associations housed in the office space, easy access for our members when you are in Austin, and wonderful meeting space for committee or board meetings. If you are in the area, stop by Suite 695 and visit your TCEP office!

Connect – I hope you are planning on attending our annual Connect meeting, March 23-25 in Austin. This years program is offering great education and some new “experiences”. To register, please visit www.tcepconnect.org

Given our vast state and me living as far away from the rest of it as I can, I find myself on many airplanes. This was a recent approach into Dallas Love on my way to a TCEP Board of Directors meeting in Austin. We are privileged to practice our craft in a beautiful state.
