TCEP Office update
Share |

It has been almost three months since I joined TCEP as your Executive Director, and I wanted to introduce myself and give you an update on some of our projects and activities.

I have been in association management my whole career starting with the Texas Dental Association. Since then I have been the Executive Director for the Texas Pest Control Association, and CEO of the Texas Society of Association Executives. I am the author of “The Guide for the New CEO” published by the American Society of Association Executives, and a Certified Association Executive (CAE).

Here are a few updates you may be interested in:

TCEP Office - I have been fortunate to have been housed in the ACEP office (Irving) since September. Getting to know and learn from the staff has accelerated my learning curve. I have also had the chance to visit with several of the DFW members and have even toured JPS with Dr. Robinson and Dr. Knowles. On my calendar is a visit to Parkland with Dr. AJ Kirk.

Effective Dec 1st, the TCEP office will transition back to Austin. Our new office will be located in the Texas Medical Association building on 15th street (two blocks from the capitol).

We have leased the office space for one year as the office condo in south Austin that TCEP owns is fully leased. It will take us a few days to get the office set up, and I am very excited to have a new staff person on board to assist with the transition. Annette Mitrosz started with TCEP on November 15th . She previously worked for the Texas Chemical Council.

When you come to downtown Austin be sure to let me know so that you can come by and see our new space.

Operations: Part of this transition involves assessing our technology and operational areas. Dr. Dan Peckenpaugh has been researching and organizing our computer software and database systems. We will be making a recommendation to the Board on a new database/website platform. A high priority Board directive is updating the TCEP website, as well as creating an operational succession document (key contacts/inventory documentation). All time intensive, but badly needed for the success of TCEP.

Residency Visits: Dr. Heidi Knowles and Dr. Craig Meek have been coordinating the annual residency visits. I have attended 2 so far and look forward to coordinating the visits for 2019. If you are interested in being part of the residency visit “faculty”, please let me know. It is a wonderful way to introduce TCEP to the residents, as well as have 1:1 discussions with them about their next steps, leadership, etc.

Advocacy: The TCEP GR committee Chaired by Dr. Theresa Tran, and the TCEP PAC ( Chaired by Dr. Rick Robinson) have been busy with monitoring legislative candidates. Contributions have been presented to 26 legislators by TCEP members.

Connect 2019: Dr. Jessica Best and Dr. Sara Andrabi have been working on a great educational program for Connect which will be in Austin, March 23-25. Registration will open soon, although you can already make your hotel reservation at the AT&T conference center (www.tcepconnect.org)

Legislative Day: We are planning a visit to the Capitol on the Monday after Connect 19. If you want to learn about the issues affecting the EM profession, come hear from our lobbyists, get tips on what to do during a visit, and join us in Austin on March 25th. Your visit can make a difference. Registration information to come later.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out to me, and who have been working so hard to grow TCEP. I am very happy to work with you and look forward to meeting more of you. Please call me with questions or concerns. 512-633-9943.
