It is all about Connections
Hello Texas EM Physicians! Is it possible that we have almost come full circle so quickly? It seems like just yesterday I was writing my first submission as President and today, I work on my last. It has been a quick, exciting year.
There are two big topics to address today: Texas Legislative Session and TCEP Connect17.
First, the 85th Session of the Texas Legislature began on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, with adjournment set for Monday, May 29. Our lobbyist, Michael Grimes, has been tirelessly navigating the legislative landscape on our behalf. Now that the bill filing deadline has passed, the real work begins. This is an important session as healthcare is at the forefront which highlights the importance of your involvement.
On February 7th, dozens of Emergency Medicine physicians, residents and students attended our First Tuesday at the Capitol. We met with many of our legislators and their staff to discuss important topics with them such as fair payment for emergency services, safe practices with psychiatric patients, and the importance of maintaining our tort laws. Making and maintaining these connections is imperative to our ability to educate our legislators on the issues important to our specialty.
In an attempt to foster these relationships, we are sharing your stories. Have seen our TCEP Physician Member Spotlight features on our website and Facebook? Sharing life stories and highlighting our physicians’ past experiences, community outreach, mission work, and goals is such an amazing honor. We want our legislators to get to know the emergency physicians in their community.
What is your role in this? All of this really comes right back to you. We need you! TCEP represents you, and need your help!
