Happy New Year!

As I worked a busy shift on New Year's Eve, I was thinking of all of you working right here with me! Thank you for all you do to serve the patients of Texas! It is a high calling to leave your own family and friends on holidays to take care of others. You are appreciated! In a time when we are highly aware of the burden medicine pours on us as physicians, which I think is more acutely felt when we are away from our families during special times, I want you to know you are appreciated in all that you do! In this new year, TCEP is dedicated to your wellbeing. Emergency Medicine ranks highest of all the specialties in physician burnout and we take that very seriously. In the coming weeks, you will receive a Physician Burnout Survey to assess the level of burnout among Texas EPs. We hope that you will complete this quick survey and allow us to assess where our Texas EPs stand when compared to the national burnout rate. Literature shows those engaged in activities that give them a voice to evoke change have lower burnout rates- TCEP can serve that function for you! There are lots of opportunities right around the corner.

Where will you be on February 7th, 2017?

TCEP wants you at the Texas Capitol lobbying for fair payment, protection of tort reform, and supporting Emergency Physicians in Texas. First Tuesday's at the Capitol is a great opportunity for you to come network with other Emergency Physicians, learn about the issues most important to us and spend time telling your stories to your legislator. This is our opportunity to share the unique position we are in – we are the safety net for our healthcare system. We have all seen the increased media coverage over the past few months. Each week, there has been another article propagating false information about Emergency Medicine, surprise bills- which often end up being co-insurance or unmet deductibles, and villainizing Free-Standing Emergency Centers. Many of you have asked, "What can we do? Can we respond?"

Well, here is your chance! First Tuesday is the perfect opportunity for you to TELL YOUR STORY! We want legislators to understand what we do, understand the mandate of EMTALA and support our specialty. We are proud to serve the patients of Texas 24/7/365! Come join us!
